Online Readings

Feature In Our Services, Without Leaving Home.

Bible readings are a fundamental part of services at St. Mark’s. As we continue to produce online services, we want to involve as many people from our congregation as possible.

Follow the steps below to see how you can feature in our services as a reader of weekly Bible verses.

Step 1: Look Over the Process

The process of creating a video file that can be edited into the service takes some technical knowledge.  For that reason, we recommend you look over all of the steps outlined below before signing up. In total, this process should take less than 20 minutes.

With all that said, however, we are always here to help. Please email if you have any questions.

Step 2: Sign Up

If you would like to sign up to be a reader, please send an email to

Even if you have read at St. Mark’s before the closure in March, you will need to send an email to this address.

Step 3: Check Your Email

After you have signed up, you will be added to a schedule of online readers.

Every Monday, an email including that week’s schedule and readings will be sent out. This is how you will know what reading you will be doing, and when.

Step 4: Choose Your Location

Once you have received an email indicating you are reading that week, choose a location that you would like to record and read in, such as a living room or backyard.

When choosing your location, make sure that there won’t be too much background noise, such as a running dishwasher or wind noise.

Step 5: Set Up Your Camera

To capture your reading, you will need a recording device, such as a smartphone or camera.

Before you start to record, check that your device is recording HD video at a resolution of 1080p, a frame rate of at least 30 fps, and an aspect ratio of 16:9. These settings can usually be accessed from the camera app or device settings.

Step 6: Get Ready to Record

Once your recording device is ready to go, set up your device on a tripod or prop it up against something solid.

Record a quick test video and play it back to make sure you are in frame and that the audio quality is satisfactory.

Step 7: Record Your Reading

When you’re ready, hit record!

It’s okay if there is a pause before and after you read your Bible verse; we will edit that out later.

Once you are done, watch your reading back. If you aren’t happy with it, you can redo it, but please keep in mind that it doesn’t need to be perfect.

Step 8: Submit Your Video

If you are scheduled to read, you will also be emailed a personalized link to a Google Drive folder.

You will need to transfer the video file from your recording device to this folder so that we can add it to the service. This can be done on a computer or on a mobile device.

You’ll need to submit your video by Friday at 7:00 p.m.

Step 9: Monitor Your Email

Once you have uploaded your video to the Google Drive Folder, watch out for a confirmation email from St. Mark’s. It will come no later than Friday at 8:30 p.m.

Step 10: Watch the Service

Once you have gotten the confirmation email, no further action is required until the next time you are scheduled to read.

You can watch St. Mark’s online services at 9:30 a.m. on Facebook, YouTube, and
